The commission of inquiry into maladministration at the SA Revenue Service (Sars) has submitted its interim report to President Cyril Ramaphosa, recommending that suspended commissioner Tom Moyane be removed and a permanent tax head appointed to stabilise the organisation. The report confirms what the FM reported in 2016 about the harrowing effect of the restructuring at Sars. This included the exodus of senior skilled employees, the obliteration of the large business centre and the way the relationship between Sars and the National Treasury had broken down.
