On Thursday, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) is due to ask the High Court in Pretoria to order Tasima, the private company behind the National Traffic Information System (eNatis), to hand over the system. eNatis is used to administer drivers and vehicle licence applications and renewals‚ as well as learner’s licence bookings‚ and notifications of changes to vehicle ownership and new vehicle registrations. In November last year, the Constitutional Court declared the extension of the contract‚ in terms of which Tasima has operated the system since 2010‚ invalid and ordered Tasima to hand over the system to RTMC within 30 days. However‚ Tasima failed to comply with the court order. RTMC wants the court to order Tasima to vacate the premises from which is operates eNatis, saying the premises are a national key point. It is also seeking an order declaring Tasima and its directors to be in contempt of the Constitutional Court ruling. TMG Digital
